Parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan: 53 polling stations will be opened abroad
53 polling stations will be organized abroad for citizens of Uzbekistan during parliamentary elections, the press service of the republican Central Election Commission (CEC) reported.
Polling stations are planned to be opened in Russia, CIS countries, Belgium, Poland, USA, Germany and other states.
At the previous parliamentary elections held in December 2014, 44 polling stations operated outside the republic.
It is noted that in accordance with Article 10 of the country’s Electoral Code, formation of polling stations at diplomatic corps and other representative offices of the republic, the issue of their registration with the district constituencies formed outside the country, is decided by the CEC.
“In the previous elections, only those citizens, who were registered on the consular lists abroad, had the right to vote. This year, those who are not on the lists will also be able to vote. They only need to contact us,” the CEC Chairman Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov said.
According to official figures, more than 2.5 million citizens of the country are currently outside of Uzbekistan.
The next parliamentary elections in the republic will be held on December 22. In accordance with the country’s electoral law, only political parties nominate candidates. Registration of candidates ends 35 days before the start of elections.
